With the Cherries having completed the signing of 19-year-old Rayan on Tuesday, I spoke to reporter Bruno Murito on the Brazilian.
Murito is a Brazilian journalist who covers Vasco da Gama in Rio and is also a Vasco fan himself.
Murito kindly spoke to me as we chatted about Rayan and how he will fit into Andoni Iraola’s system.
Vasco Da Gama have had many stars who have also performed in the Premier League.
Philippe Coutinho the most notable name, who went on to become one of the best players in the Premier League during his time at Liverpool.
Murito told me that Vasco have not had a player like those of Coutinho for a long time.
Rayan is one of those players who the Brazilian side think so highly of.
The fee for Rayan’s transfer was £35 million however Murito told me that Vasco fans believe the fee is too cheap.
Vasco da Gama are in financial trouble and as such the club would settle for much lower offers than what their players are worth.
In terms of Rayan and his profile, Rayan is a big physical presence who will have no problem dealing with the Premier League’s physicality.
Rayan is also a player who can score from anywhere on the pitch and has pace about him.
Murito told me that perhaps a weakness of Rayan is in his pressing. However, it has improved over the last year and under a good coach, Rayan would improve.
Murito is sure that Rayan can live up to his £100 million release clause and said it will only be a matter of time.
There was interest from Newcastle, Bayern Munich and Barcelona however AFC Bournemouth was the ideal destination for the Brazilian.
Murito also told me that Vasco fans are not too happy that Rayan will be wearing a red and black shirt for the Cherries.
This is because Vasco’s biggest rival, Flamengo, also wear red and black and as such it would not be a pretty sight watching Rayan for Vasco fans.
